Semivanilla Sorticraft: Mod Alternatives
Welcome back, brothers and sisters. Today's blog is about Sortacraft. If you feel Notcraft and Mods just aren't for you, keep reading. Sortacraft is an alternative to mods that fit special circumstances. There are two types I will talk about today, datapacks and plugins.
Datapacks and their uses
Datapacks are folders containing data that alter the experience in a particular world. They're used for simple things like changing and adding crafting recipes, adding advancements, and creating loot tables. They also use Minecraft's coding to add new functions to the game, making them able to do more complicated things.. Use these if you want one of the simple changes above or if you want a feature to apply to one world only. A few examples include:
- Rotten flesh to leather. I you've heard of datapacks, you would have at least heard about the rotten flesh to leather datapacks. It simply adds a recipe to Minecraft that allows you to smelt rotten flesh into leather. Link.
- JJBA datapack. A type of datapack that adds stands from JoJo's Bizarre Adventure into Minecraft. If your a fan of JJBA, you should definitely add this to you world. Link.
- Boss datapack. A datapack that adds one or multiple bosses to Minecraft. The most common version is the Herobrine boss, a Minecraft creepypasta, to the game. Bosses Link. Herobrine Link.
Plugins: Mods for Servers
Plugins are basically mods that only need to be applied to a server. There in-between a mod and a datapack. If you want to use them, I recommend a paid server or a server from Aternos. They can be used to create ranks, add worldedit, custom make tools and effects, and other features. Here are some I recommend. I don't know how there made, so you'll have to do some research if you want to make them. I have a few examples that are commonly used on servers:
- Worldedit. On servers that have creative building or just need a way to build, Worldedit helps immensely. It adds shortcuts to fill in big areas in no time and randomize block placement. Bukket Link.
- Grief Protection. Servers that use grief protection are usually servers that have chunk claiming and other things or servers that have shops. This allows moderates to turn off certain types of block damage and bar an area from griefing. Link.
- Claiming. SMPs sometimes most of the time have a claiming system, which allows players to claim a certain area/chunk so that no one can grief in that area. Great to add if you know one or more of your players will be griefing or if you have a large server.
Alright brothers and sisters, these are some alternatives to mods that you can use for your worlds. I know this ones been a bit long, but the next one should be shorter. Just remember that even though these are good options, nothing beats good old Notcraft.
